McCombs hosts three high school programs each summer to connect with top students from underrepresented communities and introduce them to the idea of studying business in college.
Red McCombs's new memoir "Big Red" was celebrated at the book launch and signing at the Red McCombs Red Zone at the Darryl K. Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium.
Next time your on campus, visit the Red McCombs Red Zone on the north side of the stadium to view the new statues honoring two distinguished alumni and extraordinary supporters of the university: Red McCombs and W.A. “Tex” Moncrief. After a year in the making, the two statues were unveiled in a ceremony on Friday, September 10.
The word “retirement” isn’t in Billy Joe “Red” McCombs’s vocabulary. The 82-year-old businessman, whose entrepreneurial ventures have ranged from owning car dealerships and the San Antonio Spurs to co-founding media conglomerate Clear Channel Communications, typically works sixty hours a week, Monday through Saturday, at his office in San Antonio. “I’ve been high-energy since the day I was born,” says McCombs.
