Halliburton Partners With McCombs School to Teach Business Education Across Disciplines

AUSTIN, Texas — Halliburton has donated $1 million to renew support of the Texas Business Foundations Summer Institute at the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. The grant will fund the Summer Institute through 2020.

“We are thrilled to have Halliburton’s generous donation to continue the Texas Business Foundations Summer Institute,” says Regina Hughes, distinguished senior lecturer in the Department of Finance and director of the Business Foundations Program. “Every summer since 2008, students from all colleges and majors have benefitted from our eight-week program. The leadership at Halliburton pledged support to help us launch this academic program and has demonstrated their commitment to The University of Texas and student development with this $1 million renewal.”

Halliburton’s support and long-term partnership with the Summer Institute provides tuition-reduction stipends to participating students and covers increasing program development costs.

The company’s investment in the institute goes beyond their financial commitment. They also play an active role in several of the program’s activities, such as leadership training, mock interviews and professional development.

The Summer Institute is an intensive eight-week, 15 credit hour program open to all nonbusiness majors. Students who complete the program earn a

“Halliburton remains committed to developing and sustaining its human capital pipeline throughout business cycles,” says Lawrence Pope, executive vice president of administration and chief human resources officer. “The Summer Business Foundations Program at The University of Texas has experienced remarkable growth since its inception in 2008 and has proved to be an invaluable program in providing business competency to students of all majors, including STEM. We look forward to continuing our partnership with The University of Texas and expanding the program.”

The 2016 summer application process opens Oct. 1, and students, including freshmen, are accepted on a rolling basis. The application can be found here.

The McCombs School dedicated a classroom to Halliburton for their continued support on Monday, March 21, 2016. In attendance were students who have graduated from the business foundations summer institute, McCombs faculty and staff, and Halliburton employees.
