McCombs Recognized for Alumni Relations, Social Media at Regional Awards Competition

Images from McCombs communications items recognized by CASEThe regional division of the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE) has recognized the McCombs School of Business with six awards, including a silver medal for best practices in alumni relations.

CASE District IV represents advancement professionals at 261 educational institutions in Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas. For its 2014 accolades competition, CASE District IV honored McCombs with a silver medal for its innovative alumni outreach program in the form of the Texas Enterprise Speaker Series, which showcases the business-related research and expertise of faculty at The University of Texas at Austin.

"Receiving a CASE Accolade is a significant honor for an institution," says Carrie Harris Phillips, CASE awards chair. "More than 100 institutions entered this year’s competition, and there were nearly 1,300 entries submitted. To be selected by a panel of judges to receive an accolade speaks to the quality of work that an institution must produce in order to be recognized."

Among its honors, McCombs took home gold for creative use of social media with the "Business Jargon Reimagined" Instagram photo gallery. Additionally, the school was awarded silver for the animated "Fundamental Attribution Error" video from its Ethics Unwrapped educational series.

The McCombs team was recognized for its writing, as well, nabbing a trio of trophies for Texas Enterprise articles. McCombs took a gold award in the medical/scientific category for its article "Healthcare Rationing Under the Radar," which includes insights from Information, Risk, and Operations Management Professor Reuben McDaniel and Management Senior Lecturer Kristie Loescher. The school won a silver award in that same category for "The See-Food Diet: How Transparent Packaging Affects Eating Habits," which looks at research from Marketing Professor Raji Srinivasan. In the category for feature articles of less than 1,000 words, the team scored a bronze recognition for "Activist Investors Cause Headaches for Boards, Boost Value for Stockholders," which covers research from Finance Assistant Professor Jonathan Cohn.

"Who wouldn't love to talk about this school, the university, and our talented alumni, students and faculty members? We're honored to be recognized by CASE for doing what comes naturally — being enthusiastic Longhorns!"
