Executive Mentorship Dinner Brings High-Level Executives to Campus

On Thursday, February 7, 2013, several high-level executives joined over 100 McCombs students to take part in the Executive Mentorship Dinner series. Students had the opportunity to sit with the executive of their choice. Executives at the dinner included:

  • Keat Wilkins, CEO of Sense Corp
  • Steve Rohleder, Group Chief Executive at Accenture (Health & Public Service Operating Group)
  • Sandy Gottesman, Principal of LiveOak Gottesman
  • Darrell Windham, Head of the Corporate Law Practice at Greenberg Traurig
  • Jim McBride, Founder and Managing Member of Blue Sage Capital
  • Gary Valdez, CEO of Focus Strategies
  • Kevin Hegarty, CFO of UT, former CFO of Dell Financial Services
  • Ken Cho, Co-Founder and Chief Strategy Officer of Spredfast
  • Rick Thielke, Portfolio Manager and Head of Analytics, SandRidge Capital
  • Jack Baum, Chairman and CEO of Ziosk
  • Erin Mulligan Nelson, Former Chief Marketing Officer at Dell and Bazaarvoice

Speaking of her experience at the dinner, Melissa Beaver, a BHP student and soon-to-be May graduate, said "the executives are not so different from us and they are often more accessible than we think." She added, "The dinner encouraged me to be more assertive in trying to meet alumni, faculty or executives. Most people are willing to help if you just ask."

Chopin Chen, a Management Information Systems major, sat with Erin Nelson, former chief marketing officer at Dell and Bazaarvoice. Speaking on her experience, Chen said "Interacting with executives made me realize that they are very humble and people-oriented. They have come so far by being genuine and passionate in their work and with their people."
