Reality TV's Newest Star: Independent Shipping?
Move over, Kardashians. Take a seat, Top Chef. A glamorous new player made its reality television debut this week: independent shipping. A&E's "Shipping Wars," follows the ups and downs of truckers working with MBA alumni-owned uShip.com.
2004 MBA graduates Matt Chasen, Jay Manickam, and Mickey Millsap founded uShip, which they describe as an eBay for shipping, while classmates at McCombs and made it to the semifinals of Moot Corp. Customers post shipping needs on the website and independent truckers bid to win the job.
"Shipping Wars" tracks six shippers--veterans and rookies--as they fight to transport cars, live animals, and the Venus fly trap set piece from the musical, "Little Shop of Horrors" across the country. The company rented an Alamo Drafthouse Theater for employees, friends, and family to watch the series premeire together. "Shipping Wars" airs Tuesdays at 9/8 p.m. Central.
